Taking time for yourself is key to living a healthy and happy life.
Practising self-care isn’t always easy. Most of us are crazy busy, have stressful jobs, or are too consumed with technology to make time for ourselves. Me-time is usually last on the agenda.
Worse, we can sometimes feel guilty about taking the time required to take care of ourselves. So getting started with self-care can be challenging.
Here are 5 ways you can start incorporating self-care into your routine:
1) Say no to others, and say yes to your self-care.
Learning to say no is really hard; many of us feel obligated to say yes when someone asks for our time or energy. But, if we keep saying yes, eventually we will feel burnt out and this will take a toll on your physical self. Try to incorporate the word “no” a little more when you feel overwhelmed.
2) Take care of yourself by getting organized.
By organizing your life, you will find what is most important to you.
3) Exercise daily as part of your self-care routine.
Find a routine that works best for you as we all know trying to get to the gym every day can be hard. But find at least 10 minutes a day to either go on a walk, yoga, cardio, find something you enjoy. The most important thing is to create a routine that works for you.
4) Eat right for self-care
Eating a well-balanced meal can help give you the energy you need to push you through the day.
5) Take time at night to let go of any stress from the day.
Always give yourself some alone time, I know this might be hard for some, but try and find a space for yourself to do something you really enjoy, whether that is reading, listening to music, meditating, anything that can relax you before bed and decompress.
Try to slowly incorporate some of these into your daily routine. Even if you can only add one of these options into your life that will be a huge impact to your self-care routine.
To help you along the way below is a great addition to your bath routine. Bath time is not just for kids! This is a great way for adults to relax the mind, body, and soul. Bath time might not be feasible daily, but pick one day out of the week and add “Bath time” to your calendar, I typically do Sunday evenings before the next week begins.
I like to infuse my own Epson salts as I know then that I am putting 100% pure oils into my bath and it is not mixed with any other chemicals. For the mix below I used lavender and eucalyptus as my oils from doTERRA. Eucalyptus has purifying properties that can be beneficial for the skin and for cleansing surfaces and the air. Studies have shown that Eucalyptus is effective in helping lessen tension. Lavender has calming and relaxing properties that will allow you to find total relaxation.
